To Restart or Continue Persona 5

At the core of Persona 5, you need to manage your time efficiently. Doing so for new and old players to the franchise can be difficult with all that there is to do, especially without knowledge of what's to come.

Let us help you manage your time by telling you things not to do in Persona 5!

Don't Waste SP!

We cannot stress this point enough, so we put it first and used an exclamation point. Conserving SP will be the difference between a Palace taking a single infiltration and a Palace taking multiple days. Don't hesitate to purchase healing items from the clinic in Yongen-Jaya since you'll get tons of yen from fighting through Palaces. Save your SP for fighting, not for healing. It's also a great idea to purchase the SP Adhesive 3 which is available at Rank 5 with the Death Confidant, Takemi or the Doctor.

For party members who tend to waste a lot of SP in battle, consider setting their tactic to Conserve SP or Direct Commands. Also, use attack items in place of your skills when you feel able to so that you don't waste SP in every battle, either.

Don't Be a Trophy Hunter on Your First Playthrough

This game is made to be played multiple times and, thus, its trophies are made for that, too. You definitely cannot get every trophy on your first playthrough since 2 trophies are only available in NG+. The first playthrough should be spent on raising your social stats as high as possible so that you can unlock confidants quicker in NG+. Try focusing on specific aspects of the game with each playthrough if you really want to get every trophy. Even still, for your first playthrough, if you try to do it all, you won't finish any of it.

Don't Sleep!

We're not joking with this one, no matter how inflammatory it sounds. There should never be a night where you go to sleep on your own accord. If the game doesn't give you any other option but to go straight to bed, that's fine, but if you can do something, do it. Read a book, make tools, take a bath, spend time with someone, and so on.

You have a limited amount of time. Make sure you use it wisely. If you're ever unsure of what there is to do, hit the touch pad on the PS4 controller or the Select button on the PS3 and find out what other people did that night. There is always something to do.

Never Leave Home Without A Book

On some occasions, you'll find yourself sitting on the train with time to read a book. Sometimes you'll have nothing else to do on a rainy day or a lonely night. Always have a book to read. You can rent one at a time for free from your library and you'll progressively unlock them there for each Phantom Thief that joins you team. Always have one on you and then buy one or two for when you run out of rentals. They're a great way to get social stat points. You should also buy books from Jinbocho, where they sell you books that take a while to read, but you'll get the book "Speed Reading", which allows you to read twice as fast.

Don't Waste Time on Information Books

To tie into the point above, there are certain books that reward social stat points and others that teach you something. There are a rare few exceptions to this, but for the most part, do not waste time reading books that teach you things, especially ones that teach you about locations. You'll go to just about every location in the game through the story and with your Confidants (except for Chinatown). If you're on a second play through, go ahead and read ones that might teach you a perk, but otherwise, only read books on locations you've already been to since they'll automatically complete when Morgana realizes you've been to the location discussed. Then, just read something else.

Don't Forget to Read Mishima's Text Messages

Mishima is the person that can give you new Mementos Requests in the game. But a lot of them will only unlock if you read the text message that he sends to you. Since the inbox deletes old messages when it gets full, make sure to read every text message Mishima sends you or else you could lose your chance at completing a Mementos request.

Palace First, Friends Second

For all but one Palace in the game, complete your Palaces as soon as possible. The only one you shouldn't do this on is the only one you can't do this on. Due to spoilers, we won't go into that here.

Not completing a Palace means the owner of it is still up and doing evil things. This will put the Phantom Thieves (and even some others) on edge, meaning they won't want to hangout with you until you've stolen the treasure of the Palace. Complete the active Palace and suddenly a lot of people will want to see you.

Friends Second, Mementos Third

After Palaces, hangout with your friends and leave Mementos for later. The Moon arcana is loosely tied to Mementos, so you won't be able to progress it much unless you complete requests, but it's best to leave Mementos towards the end of the month or a rainy day so that you can do all your requests at once. Going there too often is a waste of time that could be spent better. Try not going to Mementos more than once or twice a month as needed.

You should simply complete all the requests until you can get to the lowest level available and then only go again the next time another area is available after beating a Palace.

Mementos Third, Friends...Fourth?

Have we lost you on that one? Let us explain. There are twenty Confidants in Persona 5. Subtracting the four automatic ones and the one tied to Persona fusions, there are still fifteen. Even with the Fool arcana's ability with it's max Persona allotment of 12, you still won't be able to hold as many Personas as there are Confidants, and it takes a while before you can hold 12 Personas at once. You'll start off with six and slowly get more room.

Because of this, you're going to want to only work on as many Confidants as you have Personas available. Unless you have a ton of money to spend on releasing and purchasing Personas, it's best to max out a Confidant and then swap out their Persona for another so that you can hang out with someone else to full effect.
